Testing quintessence models grounded in supergravity against the latest baryon acoustic oscillation, supernova, and CMB datasets, the analysis finds that an uncoupled scalar field is strongly disfavored. The preferred model has dark energy and dark matter exchanging energy in a direction that reverses over cosmic time, which drives the dark-energy equation of state across the phantom divide (w = −1). This coupled supergravity branch is statistically indistinguishable from the phenomenological CPL parametrization, offering a concrete field-theoretic mechanism behind the evolving dark energy hinted at by recent surveys.
