Do dwarf galaxies reveal forces acting on dark matter?

Bihag Dave, Raghuveer Garani

May 21, 2026

Dwarf galaxies move too slowly to be held together by visible matter alone—their dynamics reveal dark matter's properties. This work tested whether dark matter fermions interact with each other by fitting models to velocity data from eight Local Group dwarfs. Both interacting and non-interacting fermionic models fit equally well, suggesting any interactions are too weak to detect with current observations.
