Can weighted galaxy clustering reveal dark matter secrets that standard measurements miss?

Astronomers tested whether weighting galaxies by their local density environment unlocks hidden cosmological information. Using simulations, they found that combining multiple weighted statistics improves constraints on the universe's matter content and clumpiness by factors of 1.7–2.5 compared to standard galaxy clustering alone, with some combinations reaching 2.4× gains. The method proved robust across different analysis choices and survey configurations.
