Can we spot wiggles in the infant universe using galaxy surveys?

Nathan Cohen, Jan Hamann

May 29, 2026

When inflation ends, it should leave a mostly smooth pattern of density ripples, but many realistic models predict telltale wiggles instead. Using simulations, the authors show these oscillations persist in the late-time matter power spectrum and can be predicted accurately enough to search for them in upcoming galaxy surveys—revealing whether inflation departed from textbook simplicity.
