Astronomers measured the dipole signal (directional motion signature) from 1.2 million quasars in the DESI survey to test whether the universe is truly uniform in all directions, a cornerstone assumption of modern cosmology. Their inferred peculiar velocity of 444 km/s agrees within measurement noise with the 370 km/s derived from the CMB, finding no statistically significant deviation from isotropy—despite recent tensions reported in radio surveys.
