Can quantum effects alone explain both inflation and dark energy?

The running vacuum model treats dark energy as dynamical—changing with the universe's expansion rate rather than staying constant. Quantum fluctuations in the early universe (when expansion was rapid) trigger inflation automatically, while today's slower vacuum evolution explains current cosmic acceleration. This framework replaces both the inflaton field and the rigid cosmological constant with a single quantum mechanism, and early data from DESI surveys favor this approach.
