Why do some galaxy jets stop growing? Simulations hint at magnetic fields

FR0 radio galaxies host unusually short jets that defy explanation. Using 3D simulations plus broadband spectral modeling, researchers traced jet stalling to recollimation shocks that seed turbulence and rapid deceleration. The simulations predict lepto-hadronic emission at TeV energies—testable with the next-generation CTAO telescope—and reveal these jets retain extreme magnetization from their launch point, orders of magnitude stronger than in longer jets.
