JWST finds twin jets shaped a supernova remnant like stellar fireworks

A supernova remnant called RCW 103 shares a striking morphology with a planetary nebula imaged by JWST: both display two opposite, clumpy regions separated by a narrow connection, characteristic of jets inflating paired lobes. The authors argue this similarity supports the jittering-jets mechanism, which proposes that multiple misaligned pairs of jets—not a uniform blast wave—drive core-collapse supernovae. If correct, this reframes how we understand one of the universe's most violent explosions.
