When neutron stars rotate and gradually slow down, their cores oscillate at characteristic frequencies. This study compares pure neutron stars to hybrid stars containing quark matter cores, finding measurable differences in their fundamental vibration modes. The result offers a way to infer what's hiding inside these extreme objects.
