Using supercomputer simulations of matter spiraling into spinning black holes, researchers tested what happens when accretion disks start at extreme angles (up to 75° tilt). Strongly magnetized disks snapped into alignment within 10 gravitational radii, but weakly magnetized ones stayed tilted. This magnetic alignment mechanism, never clearly observed before, could explain why some black hole jets point in unexpected directions.
