Fermi detects gamma rays but struggles with precision. This team cross-matched 17 unidentified Fermi sources with hard X-ray catalogs, then traced them to soft X-ray counterparts using multiple telescopes. They identified blazars, active galactic nuclei, and X-ray binaries as likely culprits—and propose two cataclysmic variables (white dwarfs stealing gas from companions) as the first gamma-ray sources of their kind.
