Road extraction from satellite imagery is crucial for mapping, but existing datasets lack diversity and struggle with complex terrain across regions. Researchers built WorldRoadSeg-360K, a 367K-image benchmark spanning 38 countries, then developed RoadGIE—an interactive editing tool that understands road topology through connectivity-aware prompts (clicks and scribbles) rather than bounding boxes. It maintains structural consistency during iterative refinement with 3.7M parameters and released code.
