Google's Gemini Embedding 2 encodes video, audio, images, and text into one shared representation space. Trained with contrastive learning across multiple tasks, it outperforms single-modality and task-specific models: 62.9 R@1 on MSCOCO image-text retrieval, 68.8 NDCG@10 on video captions, 69.9 on multilingual text search, and 84.0 on code. Works reliably zero-shot on specialized domains from bioscience to fine arts, making it practical for RAG, recommendation, and search systems.
