3D Gaussian splatting reconstructs scenes from images but struggles in regions never seen during training—it confidently guesses. GAVIS tracks which areas lack reliable visual evidence using an "anisotropic visibility field" and feeds this uncertainty into active mapping decisions, so a robot knows exactly where to look next. Real-time uncertainty quantification (200 FPS) lets autonomous systems plan efficiently without manual tuning.
