Why AI agents need to run on your device, not the cloud

The authors contend that the limiting factor for agent intelligence has shifted from model scale to coordinated system execution. Three structural constraints demand edge deployment: agents need real-time executive control physically close to their environment to maintain cognitive alignment; local data—file systems, sensor streams, OS states—becomes useless once transmitted to the cloud; and the only sustainable way to improve agents is through high-fidelity implicit feedback from real-world local interaction. The paper outlines falsifiable predictions for the next deployment cycle of personal agents but does not present empirical benchmarks or new algorithms.
