UbiSLAM uses fixed RGB-D cameras mounted throughout a workspace to build and maintain 3D maps for robot navigation, sidestepping the typical SLAM problem of equipping each robot with its own sensors. The approach delivers real-time localization updates from a centralized map and lets less powerful robots operate effectively. The main tradeoff: complete coverage requires solving camera placement optimization and filling in blind spots with data the robots themselves collect.
