How five-dimensional spinning black holes deform under electromagnetic tides

Electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations of five-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes are studied in the static limit. The magnetic and gravitational sectors yield Heun equations that reduce to hypergeometric functions — rare closed-form solutions. A key finding is that tidal forcing at one angular momentum excites response modes at higher angular momenta, encoded in a Love tensor computed iteratively. This mixing structure has no four-dimensional analogue and illuminates how higher-dimensional black holes deform under external fields.
