A renormalization group trick could simplify gravitational wave calculations

Physicists studying gravitational waves must solve the notoriously hard two-body problem in general relativity, usually through painstaking perturbative expansions. This paper puts a recently proposed classical renormalization group method on solid mathematical footing, showing it is exactly dual to established flow equations via a Legendre transform. The result opens a potentially more efficient route to the high-precision waveform templates needed for current and future gravitational wave detectors.
