Can erasing information explain why black holes have entropy?

By treating bundles of geodesics as information carriers and invoking Landauer's principle (erasing information produces entropy), the authors assign an entropy to any static, spherically symmetric spacetime via a surface integral. They show this 'Landauer entropy' obeys a second law and connects to the familiar Bekenstein-Hawking black hole entropy. If the link holds, it grounds the thermodynamics of spacetime in the same information-theoretic reasoning behind ordinary computing.
