Does curved spacetime emerge from quantum fermion geometry?

Patrick Fischer, Felix Finster

May 28, 2026

Starting from quantum field theory on curved spacetime, the authors show that Einstein's gravitational equations and the Dirac equation for fermions are not two separate laws — they're both consequences of a single variational principle called the causal action. The result is an if-and-only-if equivalence, not an approximation. This suggests gravity and quantum matter may share a deeper geometric foundation than current physics assumes.
