Can entanglement islands exist without messing up gravity?

Entanglement islands — regions that help resolve the black hole information paradox — have stubbornly resisted appearing in theories with healthy, long-range massless gravitons. By adding a unitary quantum field theory localized at a geometric corner rather than modifying gravity itself, this paper finds a stable island saddle that dominates at late times. The culprit wasn't masslessness all along, just the absence of an extra entropy contribution to balance the geometry.
