Does black hole temperature come from a hidden geometric structure?
Donato Bini, Giampiero Esposito
May 30, 2026
Hawking radiation relies on an exponential relationship between coordinate time and geodesic parameters near a black hole horizon. Bini and Esposito show this exponential is precisely captured by the Schwarzian derivative, linking the Bekenstein-Hawking temperature directly to the projective geometry of the Killing horizon — a structure more fundamental than the specific spacetime metric. If the program holds, black hole temperature, mass loss rates, and quasinormal mode frequencies all flow from a single geometric invariant.
