Can quantum computers finally simulate nuclear matter?

Zohreh Davoudi

May 19, 2026

Lattice field theory has mapped much of particle and nuclear physics, but dense matter and real-time dynamics demand exponential computing time that classical machines can't deliver. Quantum computers could sidestep this wall: certain algorithms scale polynomially instead, making previously intractable problems feasible. This is both a survey of progress and a roadmap for where quantum hardware and theory must improve together.
