Starting from first principles, researchers calculated how the Polyakov loop—a measure of quark confinement—changes when gluonic matter is subjected to constant acceleration. By comparing two mathematically equivalent formulations, they resolved a long-standing confusion about which observable to actually measure, then showed acceleration tips the balance toward deconfinement. The work connects thermodynamic properties to specific components of energy and stress.
