Traversable wormholes from imaginary scalars and their strange holographic twins

By allowing scalar fields in supergravity truncations to take imaginary values while keeping the spacetime metric real, the authors construct explicit traversable wormhole solutions connecting two Anti-de Sitter boundaries. Via holography, each wormhole maps to an entangled pair of PT-symmetric field theories — an unusual class where energy eigenvalues can still be real despite non-standard hermiticity. A brane-antibrane interpretation ties the construction to tachyon condensation, and the claim is supported by computing boundary mutual information and identifying Goldstone bosons from broken Poincaré symmetry.
