Why hydrodynamics breaks causality—and how to fix it

Relativistic hydrodynamics is an excellent low-energy effective theory, but the authors prove it violates causality as a standalone framework—some disturbances propagate faster than light. The fix: add short-lived ultraviolet modes that restore causal evolution while still matching hydrodynamic predictions at late times. This sets constraints on what those hidden modes can be.
