Can Cartan geometry handle string theory's twisted spaces?

David Osten

String theory needs geometry that ordinary calculus can't quite capture. This work builds a Cartan-geometric toolkit for "generalised geometries"—spaces where symmetries act globally and locally at once—and derives the natural notion of curvature in these settings. The framework applies directly to how branes (extended objects) move through M-theory's phase space.
