Can quantum gravity avoid infinity without breaking scale invariance?

Quantum gravity at high energies can avoid infinities through asymptotic safety, but only if you pick the right ultraviolet boundary condition. Using proper-time methods, the researchers reconstructed momentum-dependent form factors and found that asymptotic safety alone doesn't guarantee finite results; additional renormalization is required. Only when the system selects a specific non-Gaussian fixed point do all infinities vanish and predictions become independent of measurement scale.
