Do the laws of physics force heat to behave a certain way?

Clifford Cheung, Rachel A. Rosen

Using the connection between thermal diagrams and particle scattering, researchers derived strict positivity rules: certain temperature-dependent corrections to pressure and entropy in any weakly coupled theory must always be positive. These constraints follow inevitably from Lorentz invariance and unitarity, suggesting thermodynamic inequalities are as fundamental as conservation laws.
