Can Lorenz curves reveal hidden disorder in complex systems?

When systems have hidden disorder—like defects in magnets or inequality in wealth—it distorts their statistical patterns in ways hard to detect. This work shows that analyzing the shape of Lorenz curves (cumulative distributions of response) reveals the underlying disorder, even when the full probability distribution is unavailable. The method works in systems ranging from physics to socioeconomics.
