Can stargazing tours drive development in poor communities?

Researchers analyzed the first global astrotourism conference organized by the International Astronomical Union, gathering 150 practitioners from five continents. They found astrotourism functioning as a hybrid practice that simultaneously generates income, protects indigenous knowledge systems, safeguards night skies, and improves science literacy. The field lacks shared definitions and rigorous frameworks, revealing a gap between its untapped potential and current practice.
