Why your brain chops experience into chunks

Event segmentation research shows humans naturally carve continuous experience into meaningful chunks that improve memory and decision-making. Brain imaging reveals these match measurable "metastable states"—periods of stable neural activity that switch abruptly at event boundaries. The two fields are describing the same mechanism from different angles: behavior versus brain mechanics.
