Why the wiring pattern of brain networks controls their stability

May 29, 2026

The authors analyzed how the mathematical properties of brain connection matrices change depending on which neurons are wired together sparsely versus densely. They found that different sparsity patterns dramatically alter network stability and dynamics. Understanding this matters because it suggests we could predict or manipulate specific brain functions—like triggering learning or preventing seizures—by knowing what type of wiring structure is needed.
