Scaling trapped-ion quantum computers demands classical control electronics that respond in microseconds while remaining easy to program and maintain — a tension that has forced most groups to choose one or the other. Bell solves this with a Python-based compiler that translates high-level quantum control code through six compilation stages down to tightly timed, distributed hardware instructions. Running on a RISC-V/PXIe platform, it achieves cross-board feedback latency below 700 ns without any host-computer intervention, demonstrating that software abstraction and real-time performance aren't mutually exclusive.
